You didn’t think you would get through two months of console programs without seeing this classic, did you?
Of course not. And I’d be doing a shoddy job if I didn’t at least mention nethack in passing.
But I will be brief, because my meager blabbermouth contributions to the burgeoning Linux onslaught are pale — pale, I tell you — in comparison with something as immense and world-changing as nethack.
I can remember roguelike games as far back as the 286 era, and they are just as impressive now as they were then.
Sure, there are better variations out there — Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is my personal favorite; play over telnet and avoid the rush 😉 — but nethack has what you need.
And that’s all I’m going to say. If you know it, you won’t bother reading. And if you don’t know it, you shouldn’t be reading this anyway. You should be installing it. 🙂
