It is probably time to point out inxi. I like nifty console tools that spit out lots of fun information, and this is definitely one of them.
Hardcore Linux fans might cling to some combinations of dmesg
, lspci
and others, but what inxi delivers — properly formatted and colorized, I might add — is just as good … if not better.
It’s got more options than you can shake a stick at … which is probably both a good thing and a bad thing. On its own, the lowly inxi
command gives a nice quick blurb about its host.
But with only a few more options, it gives away all the dirty little secrets.
Now if you’re a clever one, you’ll find a way to pipe inxi’s output through something like conky … and really drive the geeks wild. 🙂
